6/29/2021 People-pleasing and why you should put yourself first
Where are my people pleasers at?!? 🙋🏻♀️
I don’t know about you, but it’s been a common theme for me to take care of other people before I take care of myself. I’ve felt that I need to attend to other people’s needs before I attend to my own. I often forget to check in with myself, connect to myself, and take care of and nurture myself first. Drawing boundaries was always difficult for me and is something I still struggle with. Saying “yes” when I really wanted to say “no”. Not listening to my own intuition and not trusting my own inner wisdom. This has actually created issues with my singing in the past! When we do not care for and nurture ourselves, this can create blocks in the throat chakra, which is an energy center in the throat responsible for expression and speaking your truth. When we don’t speak freely, we feel tightness in the throat. This tension manifests as vocal tension in singing and makes singing more difficult! Because when we can’t speak our truth, how can we expect to sing freely and with ease?
Does this sound familiar? My question to you is- where can you nurture yourself, draw better boundaries, and put yourself first? Instead of checking in with others at the start of your day, try checking in with yourself first. It isn’t selfish to love and care for yourself- in fact, it is necessary.
